A young woman with blonde hair, wearing a white eyelet blouse and brown pants, is sitting on a rock near water with her eyes closed, and the photo has a double-exposure effect showing her profile and face. She is barefoot and jewelry, including earrings and necklaces, is visible.

About us!

Kia Ora, I’m Kalea!
I say “us,” but really it’s just me behind Wabisabi Jewels!

Born and raised in the beautiful coastal town of Mount Maunganui, Aotearoa.

I’ve been drawn to the ocean for as long as I can remember, it’s my grounding place, my constant inspiration. I’ve also always loved expressing myself through style. I think it’s so special that we can dress up our wee bodies however we like and be completely unique from everyone else in the world!

Wabisabi Jewels came about when I noticed a gap in the market: Jewellery that you can wear 24/7 — in the ocean, on a run, in the shower, without breaking the bank. That’s where the idea sparked.

The name Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term that, in a nutshell, means “appreciating the beauty in the imperfect.” I chose it back in 2020 because I thought it was a cool concept. But over time, it’s taken on a much deeper meaning. As I’ve grown, I’ve realised it perfectly reflects not just me, my lifestyle, and mindset, but also a more universal truth: that there’s beauty in every person’s story, flaws and all.

In 2024, I steered Wabisabi into a new direction — using it as a platform to raise awareness for mental health, something incredibly close to my heart. This evolution feels right. I’m so proud of how far Wabisabi has come and can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and support others through this journey.

Thanks for being here. It means the world.

Surf-Safe Jewellery You Never Have To Take Off

Waterproof. Tarnish-resistant. Made for the ocean.

Every Wabisabi Jewels piece is made from 316 stainless steel with 18k PVD gold plating — jewellery that’s genuinely surf safe, sweat safe and shower safe. Wear it in the ocean, the pool, the gym and everywhere in between, without worrying about tarnish or fading.

What makes our jewellery surf-safe?

Regular plated jewellery corrodes fast in saltwater. Ours is different: PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating bonds gold to stainless steel at a molecular level, making it far more durable than standard gold plating. No green skin, no rust, no taking it off before a session.

Designed for ocean lovers.

Wearable art inspired by the Moana of Polynesia — shell earrings, pearl hoops and beach necklaces designed in New Zealand and shipped across NZ & Australia. Secure fastenings and simple, lightweight designs that stay put in the water.
