About us!

Kia Ora, I’m Kalea!
I say “us,” but really it’s just me behind Wabisabi Jewels!

Born and raised in the beautiful coastal town of Mount Maunganui, Aotearoa, I’ve since made the move to the Gold Coast, Australia, in search of new opportunities.

I’ve been drawn to the ocean for as long as I can remember, it’s my grounding place, my constant inspiration. I’ve also always loved expressing myself through style. I think it’s so special that we can dress up our wee bodies however we like and be completely unique from everyone else in the world!

Wabisabi Jewels came about when I noticed a gap in the market: Jewellery that you can wear 24/7 — in the ocean, on a run, in the shower, without breaking the bank. That’s where the idea sparked.

The name Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term that, in a nutshell, means “appreciating the beauty in the imperfect.” I chose it back in 2020 because I thought it was a cool concept. But over time, it’s taken on a much deeper meaning. As I’ve grown, I’ve realised it perfectly reflects not just me, my lifestyle, and mindset, but also a more universal truth: that there’s beauty in every person’s story, flaws and all.

In 2024, I steered Wabisabi into a new direction — using it as a platform to raise awareness for mental health, something incredibly close to my heart. This evolution feels right. I’m so proud of how far Wabisabi has come and can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and support others through this journey.

Thanks for being here. It means the world.
