Favourites Playlist - Summer ‘26
Helloooo, kia ora koutou!
Long time no favourites playlist… sorry to those who have been asking where they went! Life gets busy, priorities change & blah blah — all of that jazz.
The last few months I’ve been out of my usual Aus life routine. I spent a month back home in Aotearoa before heading to Ecuador, and I’ve been here for three months now. While life’s been changing and unpredictable, I’ve been leaning on music a lot… I forgot how much music can bring me home no matter where I am in the world. In all moments, all emotions, there’s always a song I can relate to that makes me feel a little less crazy.
Through this past season I’ve gone back to some of the music that helped shape my taste. Including one of my favourite albums of all time — Obscured by Clouds by Pink Floyd. It always has been and always will be an album I hold close to my heart.
Okay, onto my standouts from this playlist —
There are a few songs from TOOL. Recently I’ve been listening to maybe my favourite album, Lateralus. “Parabol” and “Parabola” perfectlyyy fade into each other. Not sure why, but I’ve always loved the contrast between the softness and calmness of “Parabol” into the fast-paced, climactic “Parabola”… not to mention the lyrics, which I just love.
“I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight” by Richard & Linda Thompson has been a bit of a theme song for me over the last few months. I remember finding this song a few years ago and being obsessed with it from the get-go.
“Dancing Barefoot” by Patti Smith… I recently rewatched Daisy Jones & The Six, which of course reminded me of this song, but also inspired me to listen to more music from the ’70s & ’80s — music just isn’t made the same these days.
Of course, lots of Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young… artists I will never get sick of. The songs from these guys that I have on rotation at the moment are “Vancouver,” “One Too Many Mornings,” and “The Old Laughing Lady.”
Lots of Pearl Jam (as always). Been loving the album No Code and their self-titled album too… special shout-out to “Come Back.” Kind of a heart-aching song, but I looove the emotion it makes you feel.
Lots of Courtney Barnett — an OG for me… specifically her album Lotta Sea Lice with another one of my fav artists, Kurt Vile.
Other special mentions -
“You’ve Got a Woman” — Lion
“Lions” — Dire Straits
“Fight to Finish” — Fela Kuti
“Fire” — Lizzy Mercier Descloux
“Talkin’” — Ty Segall
“You & I” — Foxygen
“Pish” — The Brian Jonestown Massacre
okayyy that’s probably enough — I hope you enjoy this one!
