The Chip Necklace

$75.00

Each Necklace is slightly different and unique just like we are!

All profits from The Chip Necklace are donated to Mitey.

Mitey is a program for children in years 1-8 that helps schools to teach their students about mental health. Mitey installs lessons on what Mental Health is, how to look after themselves and learn to identity and deal with their emotions, Mitey also teaches kids how to look after others, through checking in, supporting them and expressing gratitude.

Created by New Zealand teachers and the University of Auckland, Mitey fits with the NZ Curriculum and gives teachers ready to use lessons that can be adapted for their class.

Mitey coaches guide schools in areas like planning lessons, working with the community, staff wellbeing, and school policies. They stay with schools to provide ongoing help and training.

Mitey also focuses on staff wellbeing, offering tips to support teachers and the school community.

Wabisabi believes that Mitey should be implemented into every school throughout Aotearoa and eventually the world.

Throughout my years in school, I learnt a lot, but I never learnt about what mental health actually is, my emotions or tools to deal with my emotions.

I didn’t realise that nearly every person goes through tough times and experiences mental battles.

So when I fell into depression, I thought there was something completely wrong with me, I never thought depression would hit me. I felt alienated and alone. I didn’t have any tools to help me deal with the way I was feeling which lead me to fall into a deeper depression.

I know that this is the case for many Kiwis.

I believe if we learn about Mental Health, and are given the tools to identify our emotions and deal with them at a young age, as we grow up we will develop those tools and they will immensely help us throughout our journey of life.

Having these tools will in return prevent us from falling deeper into those dark times, reducing the depression and suicide rate in Aotearoa.
